Tahoe Meadows North needs your help. The photo is clear - a kids' playground is not place for big machines. They DO NOT MIX!
Join all who love our winter wilderness and the special places close to Tahoe and Reno and tell the Forest Service that these acres must be designated "Non-Motorized".
Fact: The Tahoe Meadows are within a half hour of Reno and is the open place for family snow play and quiet snowshoe and ski treks.
Fact: The Tahoe Meadows are CLOSED to motorized users (ATV's, dirt bikes, 4-wheelers) in summer to preserve and protect. The same standards should apply in winter too!
Fact: The Tahoe Meadows are surrounded by the Mount Rose Wilderness. Snowmobiles are not permitted.
The Tahoe Meadows are too small for serious snowmobilers. Practical, legal alternatives exist at other summit areas and on many thousands of acres surrounding the Reno/Tahoe region.
Fact: The Tahoe Meadows are the most popular regional (non-commercial) destination - over 40,000 winter visitor trips each year - and 95% are non motorized users. Should those on foot and ski be shut out by noise, pollution, and race-track machines?
Fact: Snowmobile use on the north side of the Tahoe Meadows has resulted in skiers and snowshoers being displaced.
Fact: Shared use has proven unsafe, ineffective and unenforceable.
